The Loire Valley in France is home to the original Chenin Blanc varietal. It’s a grape high in both acidity and sugar, making it one of the most age-worthy white wines in the world. Today, Chenin Blanc is widely planted in many wine regions, most notably South Africa, and also in Australia, California, New Zealand, South America and Washington, where it is bottled as both a varietal wine or a component of white blends. Known for its versatility, Chenin Blanc has a range of tastes from dry to very sweet, with flavor profiles that include green apple, citrus, honey and minerals. Why we love it: It has a lot to offer—one day we can have a dry Chenin Blanc, another day one that’s sweet. One wine varietal, with many different sides. And, unlike many other whites, this one is made to cellar and enjoy for years to come. Food pairings: Flaky white fish, barbecue chicken, salads and shellfish. Cheese pairings: Beaufort, Brillat-Savarin, Camembert and Goat Cheese
